Anti-Bullying policy

ANTI-BULLYING PROGRAM

Walter J. Baird’s learning community is grounded in the Blue Devil Pride (BDP). Behaviors that interfere with our students’ positive learning environment will not be tolerated.

In a team effort, our Administration, School Resource Office (SRO), School Counselors, teaches, and staff have worked together to educate the learning community about Bullying, Tolerance, and Harassment.

As part of this program we have defined bullying and violence and posted those throughout the school, as well as posting them on our website.

WJ views these issues very seriously, and students who feel they are victims of bullying need to follow the WJB reporting procedures.

The procedure for reporting bullying is as follows:

  • Students may obtain a bullying form from any teacher, staff member, SRO, office staff, School Counselor, Administrator, or from the website.
  • The student will complete the forma and return it to his/her homeroom teacher.
  • The homeroom teacher will submit the form to the School Resource Officer.
  • The School Resource Officer will meet with the victim and bully to determine an action plan.
  • Incident is documented.

Based on type and degree of offense, action plans may include referrals to the following:

  • Administrator
  • School Counselor
  • School Resource Officer
  • Students Taking A Right Stand (S.T.A.R.S.)

What is Bullying?

Part of respecting and protecting one another is to know what our school defines as Bullying, Violence and Harassment.

Bullying happens when someone with more power unfairly hurts someone with less power. Power may be physical, social, or verbal.

Violence/Disrespect is any word, look, sign, or act that hurts a person’s body, feelings, or things. We respect and protect our staff, students, their parents and our community. No one is entitled to be violent.

Harassment is to continually annoy, trouble or make unwanted advances. Harassment may be physical, verbal or social.

WJ has a bullying policy in place. Any student who feels he/she is being bullied should complete the Confidential Bullying Incident Report Form and submit it to his/her teacher.
