School Dress Code Policy
To help create the best, safest learning environment, expectations for student dress have been established. Guidelines are in place to reduce the likelihood of distraction or disruption to the daily academic focus and operation of the school. The elementary schools develop individual dress codes for their Pre-kindergarten through Fifth grade students.
The dress code policy for Walter J. Baird and Winfree-Bryant Middle Schools, and their respective system-provided school transportation, is as follows:
For all Clothing:
• Undergarments must not be showing at any time
• No holes allowed
• Name brand clothing logos may be visible on any garment (Ex: Nike, Gap, Under Armour, Old Navy, etc.) - no other writing, symbols, or pictures allowed
Pants:
• Must be worn at the waist
• No sagging
• Length (to include shorts, skirts, skorts, jumpers, etc.) must be no shorter than approximately 2” above the bend of the knee
• No spandex, yoga pants
• No leggings worn as pants; may be worn under dresses/skirts
Shirts/Tops:
• Should have a collar or jewel neckline (Henley shirts with buttons and tab collars are permissible and must provide appropriate coverage of approximately 2 inches from the collar bone)
• Must have sleeves
• Sweaters, sweatshirts - do not require a collar
• Hoodies permissible - hoods cannot be worn during the school day
• School sponsored and principal approved shirts/tops allowed
• No midriffs
Coats:
• May be worn to school
• Full length and oversized coats to be removed and placed in lockers or designated areas
Shoes:
• No flip flops
• No slides
The school administration shall determine whether the student’s attire/appearance is within the limits of decency and modesty, is supportive of and not disruptive to a positive learning climate, and/or promotes a safe school environment
